All the hard work that Metta World Peace has done to rehabilitate his NBA career took an ugly turn Sunday night. With one malicious elbow, Metta declared war on World Peace.
The controversial play occurred with 1:37 left in the second quarter with the Thunder leading the Lakers, 48-47, after Metta scored on a breakaway dunk, and on the way back up the court he ran into Oklahoma City guard James Harden. Even though Metta never made eye contact with Harden, he knew it was an Oklahoma City player in front of him and not one of his teammates. Metta cocked his elbow and blasted Harden on the side of the head, sending the Thunder guard to the floor.
Metta tried to protest the flagrant 2 foul, pleading to the officials that he was just thumping his chest in celebration. What he failed to address was the clear fact that he thumped Harden on the head. Metta will definitely hear from the NBA office after this unfortunate incident, and could receive a big fine and a possible multiple-game suspension. You be the judge if Metta World Peace had malicious intent to hurt Harden:
