YAO MING’S 5 GREATEST MOMENTS

July 15, 2011 by Joel Huerto Leave a Comment

Yahoo! Sports recently reported that Houston Rockets center and international basketball star Yao Ming is retiring from the NBA. Given Yao’s history of foot problems (he’s only played more than 60 games once since 2005-06) it’s not shocking that the 30-year-old, 7-foot-6 Chinese legend is calling it quits. He missed the entire 2009-10 season recovering … [Read more…]

ONE-AND-DONE RULE NEEDS TO CHANGE

June 30, 2011 by Joel Huerto Leave a Comment

Once the old collective bargaining agreement expires at midnight EST on June 30, NBA owners and players need to take a hard look at the current state of the early entry draft. The way things are currently constructed, any American player who is 19 years of age and at least one year removed from high … [Read more…]

WINNERS, LOSERS FROM 2011 DRAFT

June 24, 2011 by Joel Huerto 2 Comments

The picks went fast and furious, but mostly without a hitch. At the end of the first round, NBA Commissioner David Stern was booed by the fans who attended Thursday’s draft in New Jersey but that was to be expected as basketball fans are worried about an impending lockout that may interrupt the 2011-12 season. … [Read more…]

5 ‘SLEEPERS’ IN 2011 NBA DRAFT

June 23, 2011 by Joel Huerto Leave a Comment

The NBA draft is one big roll of the dice, and there is nothing scientific about it. Of course, there are those times when the picks are “no-brainers,” such as the years when Magic Johnson, Patrick Ewing, Shaquille O’Neal, David Robinson, Tim Duncan and LeBron James were available with the No. 1 overall choice.  You … [Read more…]

KERR SAYS LEBRON HAS ‘SOME FLAWS’

June 17, 2011 by Joel Huerto 1 Comment

Everyone seems to have an opinion about LeBron James these days. From TV analysts to NBA owners (ahem! Dan Gilbert) to current and former NBA players, there’s been an avalanche of criticism laid down at the feet of LeBron. Former player and current TNT analyst Steve Kerr offered his opinion of the Miami Heat star, … [Read more…]

CAVS OWNER’S MESSAGE FOR LEBRON

June 13, 2011 by Joel Huerto 2 Comments

About 15 minutes after the Dallas Mavericks defeated LeBronJames and the Miami Heat in Game 6 of the 2011 NBA Finals, Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert sent a message on his Twitter page to Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, a statement that included a shot at LeBron. “Congrats to Mark C.& entire Mavs org.,” Gilbert wrote. … [Read more…]

JET FUELS MAVS TO FIRST NBA TITLE

June 13, 2011 by Joel Huerto 4 Comments

TNT’s Kenny “The Jet” Smith has said on more than one occasion that Jason Terry got his “Jet” nickname not because of his game, but because it stood for his full name: Jason Eugene Terry. After Terry’s performance in the 2011 NBA Finals, Smith may have to revisit his little jab at the Mavericks guard. … [Read more…]

DIRK CALLS LEBRON, WADE ‘CHILDISH’

June 12, 2011 by Joel Huerto Leave a Comment

Dirk Nowitzki saw the video of Dwyane Wade and his buddy LeBron James mocking him before a Miami Heat shoot-around and the Mavericks star didn’t find the whole bit amusing. In fact, Nowitzki was a little offended. During Saturday’s news conference, the Mavericks All-Star said Wade and James were “childish” and “ignorant” to mock his … [Read more…]

LEBRON WAS ‘PASSIVE’ IN NBA FINALS

June 8, 2011 by Joel Huerto 2 Comments

When a reporter called him out after Game 3 for “shrinking” in the fourth quarter and not playing like a true NBA superstar, LeBron James responded by saying he’s a two-way player and you can’t look at the stat sheet as the barometer for his overall game. Then James told the same reporter to ask … [Read more…]

WADE SHOWS WHY HE’S HEAT LEADER

June 6, 2011 by Joel Huerto 1 Comment

Every great team has a pecking order. For the Miami Heat, it goes something like this: it’s Dwyane Wade first, LeBron James second, and Chris Bosh third. Everyone else falls in the back of the line. That was evident in Game 3 of the 2011 NBA Finals when Wade decided to take the lead and … [Read more…]
